He gives her an ultimatum: either she must love him or die. Esmeralda rejects him again and screams for help. Quasimodo hears her cry and rushes to her aid, but he arrives too late. Frollo has handed her over to the King's guard, who have orders to execute her despite the sanctuary. Quasimodo sees Esmeralda being hanged in the Place de GrÃ¨ve and falls into despair.

Frollo watches the execution from a balcony of Notre Dame and laughs wickedly. Quasimodo sees him and pushes him off the balcony, sending him to his death.
